100%: remembering things allows you to put them into a broader context, creating links with other topics... It brings much more value than simply being able to repeat it without even understanding.

For the record, the world champion of Scrabble for the French language doesn't even speak French. This guy simply memorized every French word.

Absolutely. And you can mostly tell when someone deeply understands something versus when they have just memorised facts. And most often they can't expand upon what they are saying when you ask them deeper questions.

Leaving the audience changed is the goal of any presentation. Remembering instead of memorizing is a great way to do that. Love the 200 word Tuesday articles!
