Vault Mentality
Hoard your work to create a legacy.
Hey friend
Welcome to 200 Word Tuesdays. Where we give you short, actionable ideas to implement in your project management. We promise that you haven’t heard these powerful ideas anywhere else. Let’s get started.
You’ve likely heard of the legendary musician Prince. But what can he offer us, besides hits?
Well, he has what we might call a “vault mentality”.
Prince didn't just create songs; he crafted a legacy.
He worked tirelessly, producing excellence in massive quantities, knowing his work would endure.
His dedication was so profound that he even built a physical vault in his studio to store his music. Thousands of songs kept safe.
As project managers, we should adopt this vault mentality:
Strive for Excellence: Every project, no matter how small, deserves our best effort. Treat each deliverable as if it will be scrutinized for years to come.
Embrace Productivity: Like Prince's prolific output, aim to manage multiple projects efficiently without compromising quality.
Build Your Legacy: View your project portfolio as a testament to your career. Each successful project adds to your professional vault.
Plan for the Future: Consider how your current projects might impact future initiatives or team members. Your work should endure
Take Pride in Your Work: Create with such dedication that you can look back on your projects with pride, regardless of external recognition.
Maybe we aren’t rockstars and maybe nobody will look back at our projects with much admiration.
But our projects impact lives.
By adopting a vault mentality, we ensure that our work stands the test of time, even if the only person admiring it years later is ourselves.
And that's more than enough.
See you next week,
Jonathan (The Effective Project Manager)
