The Third Door
There's always an unseen solution.
Hey friend
Welcome to 200 Word Tuesdays. Where we give you short, actionable ideas to implement in your project management. We promise that you haven’t heard these powerful ideas anywhere else. Let’s get started.
Imagine you are trying to solve a particularly difficult project problem.
You probably don’t need to imagine too hard.
You have a list of possible solutions.
Standard solutions you have used before such as hiring more resources, changing the scope, meeting with regulators etc.
But could you not come up with more creative solutions?
This is where today’s concept comes in.
The “Third Door” concept, popularized by author Alex Banayan, is a metaphor for an unconventional approach to achieving goals.
Imagine life as a nightclub with three ways to get in. The first door is the main entrance where everyone waits in line, often for years, hoping for a chance. The second door is for VIPs—celebrities, wealthy people, and others with exclusive access.
However, Banayan suggests that there’s a hidden, third door—a side entrance that requires creativity, persistence, and often boldness to find. Maybe you could get in as a journalist, as a volunteer, by making friends with the manager or by organising an event yourself.
This third door symbolizes an alternative path to success for those willing to think differently, hustle, and persist despite rejection.
Banayan’s concept is particularly relevant where traditional methods (like waiting for opportunities to come) often aren’t enough.
Instead, the third door emphasizes taking initiative.
This approach to getting things done teaches that success doesn’t always come from the most obvious or expected path. By using this mindset, you can create your own opportunities and bypass barriers, opening doors to success that you may have thought were inaccessible.
The “Third Door” inspires action beyond conventional limitations.
