Hey friend
Welcome to 200 Word Tuesdays. Where we give you short, actionable ideas to implement in your project management. We promise that you haven’t heard these powerful ideas anywhere else. Let’s get started.
You most likely know Conor McGregor.
Martial artist and champion of the UFC.
I came across a story about Conor McGregor that really stuck with me.
His coach once told him he was like a flickering lightbulb—always on but not shining brightly.
Conor was working hard, but never resting.
He had the work ethic.
He lacked the rest-ethic.
It was a wake-up call for him, and it’s one we can all learn from: rest ethic is just as important as work ethic.
As project managers, we pride ourselves on our drive and determination. But constant hustle without balance can lead to burnout, leaving us feeling like that flickering bulb—working hard but never at our full potential.
Productivity is about doing what matters most, with focus and energy.
That energy comes from rest.
Rest is recharging your battery.
Take moments to pause, reflect, and step away from the grind. Whether it’s a walk, a hobby, or simply some quiet time, these breaks allow your mind to reset and return sharper.
When you prioritize rest, you’re not being lazy—you’re setting yourself up to shine brighter when it matters most.
So, as you plan your week, ask yourself: am I giving rest the same priority as work?
Here’s to working hard and resting well.
See you next week,
Jonathan (The Effective Project Manager)

Rest isn’t a luxury after the work. It’s a crucial part of working well. When I stopped seeing rest as optional, my output improved. Tired minds don’t produce great work.
