Hey friend
Welcome to 200 Word Tuesdays. Where we give you short, actionable ideas to implement in your project management. We promise that you haven’t heard these powerful ideas anywhere else. Let’s get started.
Even if you are not that familiar with basketball, you likely know what a rebound is. A failed shot bounces off the rim and someone else catches it, before scoring the point themselves. Hanging around the hoop is a useful metaphor for more than just basketball.
Think about it: Are you positioning yourself where opportunities are likely to appear? Just like a player anticipating a rebound, you need to be in the right place at the right time.
Here's how:
Surround yourself with innovators. Seek out those colleagues who always seem to be onto the next big thing. They're launching new initiatives, tackling important projects, and climbing the career ladder.
Adopt a giving mindset. Don’t ask what they can do for you, ask what you can do for them.
Stay alert and ready. Opportunities don't announce themselves. They spring up from unexpected places - a casual conversation, a project hiccup, or even someone else's setback. Keep your eyes and ears open.
Build genuine relationships. Build real connections. Show interest in others' work and ideas. You'll be surprised how often this leads to unexpected opportunities.
Remember, "hanging around the hoop" isn't about being opportunistic in a negative sense. It's about positioning yourself where good things happen, being ready to contribute, and creating value for others.
It is only inevitable that you will catch a rebound. An opportunity so good that it changes your career and your life.
